Phone and button remotes

A player box can be run from a phone, from small Wi-Fi button devices, and from the Jukebox visitors' phones. They all share the same state on the box, so two remotes never fight.

The phone remote

Each display has its own remote page. In Remote Display → Now find Phone remote, send the link to yourself and open it on your phone. Sign in once, then add it to your home screen for a one-tap remote. No app is needed.

What it does:

  • What is playing, with pause, skip, and jump to any item in the playlist.
  • Play: pick a playlist or an item. Anything you pick lasts until the next scheduled change; Back to schedule ends it.
  • Scares & effects: fire a jump scare or an effect over whatever is on. Your own presses skip the visitors' wait.
  • Sound: turn the house sound on for a few minutes, or off, and set the volume.
  • Schedule: the week's entries, reorderable; where two overlap, the higher one plays.
  • Put up a photo: show a picture on the house right now.

The remote works for the display's owner, co-owners and helpers (see sharing).

Button remotes

For a box with Wi-Fi and a few buttons, a smart-home automation or a script: Screens & sound → Button remotes makes a key for this one display. The key is shown once, when it is made; revoking it stops the device at once. Keys outlive whoever made them, and the owner or a co-owner makes and revokes them.

The device sends one HTTPS request per press:

curl -X POST https://projectorshow.com/api/display-control \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer ps_ctl_…" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"action":"sound","on":true,"minutes":10}'

Actions: play (a playlist or item), pause, resume, next, previous, schedule (back to the schedule), sound (on for a number of minutes, or off), volume, blank, off (HDMI off) and restart. The panel shows the exact body for each when you make a key. A typical doorbell-style setup is one button for "sound on for 10 minutes" and one for a scare.

The phone app for the designer

The Projector Show phone app (iOS and Android) is different: it pairs with a browser running the designer and drives it (play, pause, jump) while you walk around the house. Pair it from the Display tab's pairing code; codes expire after five minutes. For a player box you do not need the app.
